PARISH GROUPS   

The Pastoral Council consists of 12 members who meet four times a year to discuss parish matters, liaise with parishioners, and to put forward any suggestions that arise to the parish priest.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.  There is a full RCIA programme run by Fr Keith and two catechists for those who have asked to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church.

Lent/Advent Courses.   Recently we have looked at the lives of St Peter and St Paul, and meditated upon the subject of Divine Mercy.   Some of these talks are available on CD - see the home page.

Music.  The choir who sing in Bodmin meet at 7.30pm on Thursdays in the Church.  We use a variety of Mass settings and there is a focus on Latin in Lent and Advent.  The most demanding and exciting part of our work comes at Easter notably during the Triduum where this year eight cantors were involved.  New members are always welcome.  Please contact Joanna Raymond-Barker, Choir Mistress, tel:01840 212454.Music at Wadebridge is co-ordinated by Michael Baker, tel 01208 815831.

The Parish Centre Committee meet every 3 months to discuss the running and the upkeep of the parish centre. 

The Social Committee arrange fundraising events for the whole parish, primarily to raise money but also to bring the communities together to have fun.  If you have any ideas for future fundraising please contact the parish office, tel 01208 72833.  See newsletter for events.

Catholic Women's League Bodmin Branch meet at the Parish Centre on the first Thursday of each month from 2 – 4 pm.. Anyone wishing to join is welcome to contact Noreen Hall tel 01208 880750. 

Society St Vincent de Paul.  Bodmin Branch meet at the Parish Centre on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.  The group comprises about 15 members, and our main purpose is to bring God's love to the lonely, suffering and deprived.  We have a twin SVP conference in India with whom we correspond and support. Knights of St Columba.  The KSC is a Catholic organisation for men with the motto of Charity, Unity and Fraternity.  Council 420 Bodmin & District has around 20 members.  The year 2008 is the 90th year of the KSC nationally.  For more information please contact John Hilton, Deputy Grand Knight, tel 01208 74779. 

The Legion of Mary.  There are four Praesidia in Cornwall.  Their work includes visiting the sick and the lonely in hospital or in their homes, and visiting in the parish those who have not experienced the love of God.  If you would like to join us or support us in prayer as an auxiliary member, please contact John Tolhurst tel 01208 73229.

CAFODThis parish raises money for CAFOD in several different ways.  There are frugal lunches held in Padstow each month, to which all are welcome.  Please see the newsletter for details.  Throughout the year children of the parish raise money for CAFOD.  Every Wednesday during lent at 12 noon a Lenten Lunch is held at the Parish Centre and all proceeds go to CAFOD.  For more information please contact Eileen Corcoran, tel 01208 74201.

SPUC, Society for the Protection of Unborn Children.   SPUC is a Pro-life organisation defending human life from conception to natural death.  The Bodmin branch was established in 1984.  We are involved in many activities, for example education, lobbying parliamentarians, prayer witness, annual Human Chain vigil.  Silent vigil outside Bodmin and Truro hospitals most Saturdays.  See the newsletter for details.  Branch Chairman:  Frank Philip, tel 01208 76349.

 

Faith Sharing Prayer group have just started meeting in the sacristy of the church in Bodmin, after the 6.30pm Mass on Thursday. The aim is to help and support each other in our apostolic work and family life through deepening our communion of life with Jesus through mary. Visit of the English Catholic History Association 6 - 8 May 2009
